Moto Guzzi unveils stealthy cruiser concept

The carbon-fiber encased MGX-21 looks like the sort of bike that Harley-Davidson would be producing if their headquarters were Milanese rather than in Wisconsin.
But that shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Because, if you peel back the matte black carbon fiber cladding that envelopes the Moto Guzzi MGX-21 there is a 1400 California cruiser underneath, which to all intents and purposes is the company's slightly more elegant answer to the Harley-Davidson Sportster touring bike.
Moto Guzzi itself says the concept bike, unveiled at EICMA bike show in Milan, Italy, "takes and combines elements, seeks out the influence of different cultures but drafts each foundation to lead everything back to the riding experience which belongs to every Moto Guzzi."

And as well as nods to classic bikes of the past and retro bikes of the present, there is also a reference to four-wheeled automotive design. The wraparound side panniers taper over the bike's tail into a point, harking back to the boat-tailed touring and sports cars of the 1930s.
Despite its matte exterior, the bike does look stunning, if a little derivative and although it is just a concept at this stage there is a good chance that a production version could see the light of day -- after all it is based on an existing model -- however those that fancy owning one, beware, because, according to its makers, "Only those who have very deep roots, those who do not suffer from an identity crisis can afford such an extreme style."
